2.1
The lands we know today as the Township of Centre Wellington have been
home to Indigenous peoples since time immemorial. We acknowledge that
we are on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Anishinaabe and
the Haudenosaunee.
With increasing encroachment by non-Indigenous settlers in the Township of
Centre Wellington, the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee could not continue
their traditional lifestyle and settled in their villages along the Credit River
and in the Grand River Valley. These Indigenous nations uphold their Treaty
Rights within our jurisdiction.
Today, the Township of Centre Wellington remains home to Indigenous
peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to
share and respect Mother Earth and are committed to building constructive
and cooperative relationships with Indigenous nations.

Heritage Centre Wellington will consider a staff recommendation to designate 195 Queen Street West in Fergus under the Ontario Heritage Act. Staff and the Properties Sub-committee found the property meets five of nine criteria, citing its historical ties to early settlement and industry, its limestone cottage architecture, and its role in the historic streetscape. We are meeting on lands that have been home to Indigenous nations since
time immemorial. We acknowledge we are on the treaty lands and territory
of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as well as the traditional
territory of the Haudenosaunee.
With increasing encroachment by non-Indigenous settlers, in the area now
known as the Township of Centre Wellington, the Mississaugas could not
continue their traditional lifestyle and retreated to villages along the Credit
River, eventually settling in the Grand River Valley. The Mississaugas of the
Credit First Nation uphold their Treaty Rights within our jurisdiction.
Today, the Township of Centre Wellington remains home to Indigenous
people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to
share and respect Mother Earth and are committed to building constructive
and cooperative relationships with Indigenous nations.

The Council will vote on a series of by‑laws that amend the 2009‑045 Zoning By‑law for short‑term rental accommodation, create a licensing regime for short‑term rentals and bed‑and‑breakfasts, and establish a Municipal Accommodation Tax. Council will vote on consent agenda items that include a $32,637.47 expenditure for emergency shelter supplies for the Fergus Sportsplex and Jefferson Elora Community Centre and a drone for the Centre Wellington Fire Department. The council will also approve demolition of the structure at 22 Carlton Place, remove it from the Municipal Heritage Register, and implement the Heritage Memo recommendations.
