One application for an air-supported sports dome at 2188 Rodick Road was unanimously denied because members found the requested variances were not minor and failed the four tests of the Planning Act.

Mayor Redekop: Mr. Pitti, we're now streaming. Mr. Thank you very much, Madam Clerk, and good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to the City of Markham's Council meeting. Members of Council and staff are meeting either in person here in the Council chamber or remotely. For those that are watching the live stream of the Council meeting, we do offer closed caption for the live stream. And anyone that wants to have that feature, just click the icon in the right bottom corner of the screen, the two capital Cs, and if you click that, that will engage the closed caption. Again, that's just for those that are watching the live stream. If a member of the public wishes to participate in today's meeting and wishes to make a deputation, you can let us know in a number of ways. If you're watching remotely, you can email clerkspublic@ markham.ca. All one word,
[email protected]. Or if it's easier to call, you can call 905-479-7760. Again, 905-479-7760. And those that are here in the Council chambers, if you wish to make a deputation, there are blue forms on the presentation desk. So, please fill that out and hand it to one of our clerks and that will get you on the speaking list. We do have three, actually four now registered deputants. And also on today's agenda, we do have confidential items, although they're pretty recent. So, we may not, I don't think there's a new item on there. There is one. Okay. There is a new item. So, we do have to maybe go into camera, but we'll deal with those …

Heritage Markham Committee
heritageplaquespermitsvariancesmarkhamheritage-conservation-districturban-design
✓ Décisions: Heritage Markham recommends switching to tooled bronze designation plaques
The Committee recommended replacing current cast bronze plaques with a more cost-effective tooled bronze version to maintain design consistency. They also approved heritage variances for two properties and received updates on a street reconstruction study and a heritage insurance report.
- Recommended replacing cast 3/4" bronze plaques with tooled 5/8" bronze plaques from Signs in the Making
- Approved variances for a 1-storey sunroom/greenhouse at 293 Main St. N.
- Approved variances for a two-storey dwelling and accessory building at 26 Markham Street

Per the City's procedural bylaw, members may speak for up to five minutes at a time during debate, with no limit of the number of times they may speak. The time limit does not apply when members are asking questions or seeking clarification for deputants or staff. When it comes to voting, members of Council are asked to raise their hands in full view of their camera. If a member of the public wishes to participate in today's meeting, please complete a deputation form found on the City's website or email a request to speak to clerkspublic at markham.ca. If you don't have access to email, you may call the clerk's office at 905-479-7760. All deputants are allowed five minutes to speak, and in conducting an efficient meeting, I'll be adhering to the time limits. Once you're done speaking, I will ask you to remain available to respond to any committee members' questions. We currently have one deputation on 7.2. Please note that the items from today's meeting requiring ratification will be going to the Council meeting on June 23, 2026, unless otherwise noted at today's meeting.
