Niagara council to vote on 2021 budgets, fees, and Welland urban boundary expansion

Niagara Region Council is meeting electronically to consider several by-laws, including the 2021 operating and capital budgets, a new fees and charges by-law, and an interim levy. Niagara Region committee to review 2021 levy operating budget

The Budget Review Committee of the Whole is meeting to consider the 2021 Levy Operating Budget, which was deferred from the January 14 meeting. The committee will also receive information on the 2021 Fees and Charges By-law and a revision to the budget document. A closed session is scheduled to discuss a personnel matter regarding the Medical Officer of Health.

The Budget Review Committee approved the 2021 net levy operating budget totaling $409,619,835, including $214,402,632 for Regional Departments and $195,217,203 for Agencies, Boards, and Commissions. The budget includes a 1.0% increase for operating expenses and a 1.0% increase for pay-as-you-go capital financing, plus an additional $4,319,211 draw from the Taxpayer Relief Reserve to reduce the net levy increase to 1.8%. A proposed amendment to increase the budget to 3% for hospital funding was defeated, and a motion to remove $300,000 from the Smarter Niagara Incentive Program was also defeated.

Committee to elect chair and vice-chair, hear Canada Summer Games update

The Niagara Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is meeting electronically to select a committee chair and vice-chair.
