Council passed By-law 31/2026 allowing 40% lot coverage on future residential lands.

The Town of Petrolia Council has passed By‑law 31 of 2026, amending Zoning By‑law 63 of 2017 to permit a maximum lot coverage of 40 % on designated future residential development lands. The amendment changes several zones (R1, R1‑H) to new exceptions (R1‑11, R‑11 H) and updates sections 5.3, 5.5, 5.11, 5.12 and 5.13 to reflect the higher coverage. Residents may appeal the decision to the Ontario Land Tribunal by August 2 2026.

Ross Ellsworth appointed chair of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee

The committee approved its agenda and the February 4 minutes, then nominated and accepted Ross Ellsworth as chair for 2026. A budget update for 2026 was presented, and reports were given on the Parks & Recreation Master Plan, trails, Art in the Park applications, and youth advisory recruitment. No public comments were received. The next meeting is scheduled for March 4, 2026.
