Note from General Manager Planning and Development: While staff will continue to monitor the noted Building Permit case for compliance, the application was made on or before the October 21, 2025, deadline for submissions under the original R1 SSMUH Zoning District. The plans submitted conform to the zoning bylaw at that time and a Building Permit has been issued on this basis.

Each nation has distinct histories and distinct traditional territories that fully or partially encompass the city. We encourage you to learn more about the host nations whose ancestors have occupied and used these lands and include parts of present-day Burnaby for thousands of years. Under Announcement 3.1, we have a presentation this evening on the city's 2026 Local Hero Awards. Local heroes are people who have made outstanding contributions to our community's well-being. I am pleased to have the opportunity tonight to recognize four individuals for their significant accomplishments and the positive impacts they have made on the city and the citizens of Burnaby. 2026 marks the 28th year the city has recognized its local heroes. The total number of local heroes in Burnaby, including the people being recognized this evening, now stands at 311. Local heroes represent an impressive cross-section of Burn aby citizens. At this time, I would like to thank our schools, libraries, recreation centers, and community agencies for helping to spread the word about the program. I would also like to extend a special thank you to the people who took time and initiative to put together nomination submissions this year. Without the efforts of the nominators, the local heroes award program would not be the su …
