All righty folks, we will call the meeting to order please. So I'm Mayor Foster, I'll be chairing the meeting. I would ask that folks please turn their phones to silent. This meeting is taking place as a hybrid meeting. Live streaming is available at www.clarington.net/calendar, which is where the archived video will be found later in the week. For those participating electronically, please be aware that staff and I have a display that shows whether your camera is on, regardless of whether you are speaking. All righty folks, we will call this special council meeting to order. The meeting is dealing with one item, that is PDS-048-26, the authorization to execute the CPKC and Metrolinx agreements. So with that, Councillor Rang, I believe you've got the land acknowledgement statement. Thank you, Chair. We have been encouraged to make these land acknowledgement statements our own and to provide some personal context around them, so I'll try to do that as quickly as I can before I read it. When I was a university student and working in summer jobs in Dunville, Ontario, I was a roofer for one summer and I worked with a fellow by the name of Tom, who was a Mohawk. And at around that time, the Oka crisis was going on in Quebec. And sitting on a roof with Tom one day, I, you know, in my infinite wisdom, having watched the news and read the news, gave some opinions about the O ka crisis. And Tom, to his credit, was really patient with me and walked me through the way that he saw it. And walked me through a lot of history that I hadn't known. And I came away from that conversation very changed in my opinions and much more willing to be curious and to ask questions. So as I read this land acknowledgement statement, my advice to folks is to be curious and to ask questions and to seek out those who have an opinion that may be different than yours, who have an experience that is different from yours. The Municipality of Clarington is situated within the traditional and treaty territory of the …
