Council to review 2026 draft budget and user fees

Council will consider the 2026 draft capital and operating budget and proposed user fees and charges. Other items include a request to abandon a section of the J. Leitch Drain, an encroachment agreement for 212 and 214 Nancy, a demolition permit for 265 Shackleton Street, and the Elgin County Transportation Master Plan.

The council adopted the 2026 Capital and Operating Budgets using Scenario 2 and set the municipal tax rate at 7.4%. It also approved changes to municipal user fees and the abandonment of a portion of the J. Leitch Drain. Additional actions included supporting several external resolutions, issuing a demolition permit for 265 Shackleton Street, and directing work on the Elgin County Transportation Master Plan.

Council will adopt minutes, hear a delegation about a blood clinic, and consider a petition for drainage works (Zachariah McCallum Drain). The council decided to proceed with a Section 4 drainage petition submitted by Phil Smith and appointed Deputy Mayor Ken Loveland to the West Elgin Court of Revision, with Councillor Henry Dryfhout as alternate. It also instructed an engineer to conduct Bennett Drain block assessments, supported the temporary closure of Currie Road for the Dutton Cruise In on five dates, and approved the consent agenda.
