So we would be relying more on the services that we already receiving. And from our perspective, and then talking to some other people, even if it meant having an extra surcharge on our property taxes, which I feel are already high, because when we moved here five years ago, they were not over $4,000 like they are now. So I'm thinking, you know what, maybe $10 extra a month would really not hinder somebody that much in getting a response time in under five minutes versus getting a response time maybe in 25 minutes, which could be the difference between life and death. So I'm thinking, like, are you going to have another meeting after you get your model from the province to see what financial impacts this might be? So that the people here could actually have a say in, yes, we're willing to pay the extra, or no, we're not going to pay the extra. So that the people here could …

Good evening everyone and welcome to Council Chambers for our regular Council meeting of May the 11th. As we all gather here today, we do acknowledge we are on Treaty 6 territory in the homeland of the Métis. We pay our respects to the First Nation and Métis ancestors of this place, and we reaffirm our relationship with one another. I also want to acknowledge the absence of Councillor Carter this evening. We recognize that there's a very important business item later in the evening, and Councillor Carter had an extensive family vacation plan many, many months ago. Long before we were aware of the ambulance contract item that is unfortunately has a timeline attached to it with the province. Councillor Carter has reached out to me and shared that she has been reading the correspondence that has come to Council and has appreciated hearing feedback from our community. Unfortunately, she is unable to participate in the meeting and ultimately the vote this evening. As a member of Council, Councillor Carter has demonstrated a commitment to her role in listening to different perspectives on important decisions and wishes she could have been here to do that tonight. The logistics simply didn't work out. Other than that, we have the rest of Council here and we do have two proclamations to make this evening. So we'll start off our meeting. You may have noticed I have a nice New Jersey today. So I would like to proclaim Green and Gold Day for May the 18th, 2026. Whereas the Edmonton Elks …

All right. Good evening, everybody, and welcome to our regular council meeting for April the 27th, 2026. I want to welcome everybody in chambers this evening. And as we all gather here today, we acknowledge we are in Treaty 6 territory in the homeland of the Métis. We pay our respects to the First Nation and Métis ancestors of this place, and we reaffirm our relationship with one another. I do want to make note that Councillor Carter is away on vacation. The rest of the council is here in person, and we also have three proclamations to proclaim this evening. So bear with me. I'm losing my voice with all the dry weather out there. Our first proclamation is for Canadian Mental Health Week from May 4th to the 10th, 2026. Whereas the Canadian Mental Health Association has hosted Mental Health Week nationally since 1951 to encourage communities, schools, and workplaces to celebrate, protect, and promote mental health. And whereas good mental health is an essential part of the overall well-being of Canadians, and not receiving adequate support for mental illness can have a nega …
