Elliot Lake council to consider $21M loan for Rogers Arena renovation
Elliot Lake city council is set to vote on a $21 million loan to fund a major renovation of the Rogers Arena, among other financial agreements, according to the agenda for its June 22 meeting. Minutes from that meeting have not yet been published, so no final decisions are confirmed.
The proposed $21 million term loan with TD Bank would cover the arena project. Council is also scheduled to consider a $10 million operating line of credit and a $2 million equipment facility, also with TD, along with a new $300,000 Visa credit limit from TD that would replace an existing Desjardins card. Separately, a community improvement plan (CIP) grant for KES Equipment Inc. at 4 Perini Road is on the agenda, as are results of the curbside garbage collection tender and a contract for a heat exchanger.
These items represent significant financial commitments for the city. The Rogers Arena renovation, if approved, would be one of the largest infrastructure investments in recent years. The new credit facilities and card would change the city’s banking arrangements. The CIP grant is a tool to encourage local business investment.
Zoning by-law housekeeping amendment also discussed
On the same date, a separate public meeting was held to review a proposed housekeeping amendment to the city’s zoning by-law. The report, prepared by J.L. Richards Planning Consultants, was presented for discussion. No decision or recommendation is recorded in the available agenda. Housekeeping amendments typically correct minor errors or inconsistencies in the zoning text and do not change the overall land-use map.
