Lanark Highlands council weighs closure of Fire Station 4, reviews penalty bylaw and fence options

Committee of the Whole: penalties, fences, finances
The Committee of the Whole discussed a draft Administrative Monetary Penalties By-law (By-law No. 2026-XXXX) that would allow the municipality to enforce its bylaws through fines rather than court proceedings. A separate report (COR-2026-70) presented options for a new fence by-law, giving council possible paths forward.
Treasurer’s staff delivered a financial update through May 31, 2026 (FIN-2026-55), and the chief administrative officer provided a Strategic Plan Implementation Update for 2026-2027 (CAO-2026-37). Council also considered appointment updates to the OPP Detachment Board and the Library Board.
Regular council: Fire Station 4 closure on table
During the regular meeting that followed, council considered By-law No. 2026-2039, which would authorize the formal closure of Fire Station 4 in Tatlock. The agenda listed the item as a vote, but minutes have not been published, so the outcome is not yet known. The meeting also included updates from the County of Lanark and a closed session for legal matters.
