Saskatoon council approves $31.7M loan for indoor recreation, rezoning changes

Standing policy committees

SPC-Planning, Development and Community Services (Aug. 5) recommended amending the Smoking Control Bylaw to include a 10-metre setback from doorways and repealing the No Smoking Policy (6-0). It also recommended allowing the Lyle Sanderson Naming Committee to proceed with Option 2 for naming the Saskatoon Field House track (5-0, one conflict), approved up to $10,500 for the 2026 National Trust Conference, and recommended deferring downtown bench removals until September 2027. All votes were 6-0 unless noted.

SPC-Finance (Aug. 5) unanimously recommended the acquisition of 159.88 acres in northwest Saskatoon for $650,000, reserve transfers totaling $2,207,425.57, and the direct sale of 902-912 3rd Avenue North to Vox Developments for $1,357,000 for affordable housing. It also recommended an exchange of that property for 2401 Broadway Avenue on Housing Action Plan sites and the release of 2401 Broadway Avenue at market value. All votes were unanimous.
