Woolwich Council weighs water allocation policy, road contract at June 23 meeting
Woolwich’s regular council meeting on June 23 tackled several administrative and infrastructure items, including a proposed new water allocation policy and a $162,738 road maintenance contract. Water allocation policy and by-law updates
Council discussed adopting a new Water Allocation Policy that would replace the current framework for managing water permits and usage. To implement the policy, council also considered amending the Delegation of Authority By-law. Related changes include an updated Cemetery By-law to replace By-law 56-2018.
Road work and snow clearing
A $162,738.66 contract for the 2026 Surface Treatment Program was on the table, to be awarded to Cornell Construction. In a separate move, council considered discontinuing the Elmira Sidewalk Snow Clearing Program. If approved, the change would add $85,000 to the 2027 budget to cover alternative winter maintenance methods.
Electric vehicle charging stations
Council reviewed a funding agreement with the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network to support installation of electric vehicle charging stations. The agreement outlines the township’s role and costs for the project, though no dollar amounts were specified in the agenda.
What was on the agenda but not yet decided
Public presentations were scheduled on a proposed Official Plan amendment for the Gateway Employment Lands and a motion to cease train whistle sounding at certain crossings. Both items were heard but no votes have been recorded.
