Vulcan County Considers RV Storage Rezoning, Road Closures, and Land Use Amendments
Vulcan County Council and its Municipal Planning Commission met July 15 to weigh several land use matters, most notably a proposal to rezone 15.5 acres for a recreational vehicle storage facility. Because minutes for the July 15 meetings have not yet been published, it is not yet known what was decided; the following reflects what was scheduled for consideration.
County Council and Public Hearing
Council was scheduled to hold a public hearing for Bylaw 2026-021, which proposes redesignating approximately 15.50 acres of the parcel NW 34-18-26 W4 from Rural General to Rural Commercial. The change would permit the development of an RV storage facility featuring 14-ft × 50-ft parking stalls, 24-ft internal roadways, 24-hour access, lighting, fencing, and on-site amenities. The site contains no substantial wetlands and includes one abandoned pipeline right-of-way. If approved, the project would still require a future development permit and a roadside development permit from Alberta Transportation. The project aligns with the Rural Commercial Land Use District and is a discretionary use before the Municipal Planning Commission.
Council was also set to consider:
- Bylaw 2026-022: Road Closure (1st Reading)
- Bylaw 2026-023: Land Use Bylaw Amendment for a data processing operation
- Wyndham-Carseland Area Structure Plan Rewrite
- A closed meeting regarding a non-residential tax incentive agreement and intermunicipal funding.
Municipal Planning Commission
The Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) was scheduled to review two development permit applications:
- Application 32-2026: A multi-unit dwelling at Division 1: Plan 0814128, Block 1, Lot 1.
- Application 36-2026: A renewable energy individual project at Division 4: NW 32-14-21 W4.
The MPC agenda also included the adoption of minutes from the June 17, 2026 meeting, a development permit summary action list, and an information item on the ORRSC Periodical Spring 2026 – Dugouts.
