Clearwater County council discusses animal control bylaw, aggregate extraction at recent meetings
Clearwater County council convened twice in late June, covering topics from animal control and land use to infrastructure spending. The June 22 Strategic Planning Committee of the Whole and the June 23 regular council meeting each included items that could shape county services and development. Strategic Planning Committee — June 22
The Strategic Planning Committee of the Whole met to receive a delegation from Alberta Animal Services concerning a draft Animal Control Bylaw, and to provide direction on the matter. The committee also discussed the county’s Brush Clearing Policy and gave first reading to Draft Bylaw 26/076, a new Records Management Bylaw. Proposed amendments to development node Area Structure Plans for Saunders-Alexo and Whitegoat Lakes were examined. Two items with possible 2027 budget implications were reviewed: a heated storage facility project and a solid waste management plan that includes transfer station options. All items were on the agenda; decisions have not been recorded in published minutes.
Regular Council Meeting — June 23
Council held public hearings on four land use bylaw amendments and on Development Permit 51/25, an application by Premier Tech Horticulture Ltd. for aggregate extraction. Second and third readings were considered for Bylaws 26/093, 26/094, and 26/096, which would amend the Land Use Bylaw. First reading was given to Bylaw 26/100 for Application 17/26, another land-use amendment. The agenda also included awarding the Leslieville Lift Station upgrade tender and adoption of a revised “Welcome to Rural Clearwater County Resident Guide.” The June 22 meeting was a committee of the whole, allowing in-depth discussion without formal voting; the June 23 regular meeting included formal readings and public hearings. As with the earlier meeting, minutes are not yet available to confirm which items were approved or adopted.
