Finch Heights Apartments project pitched to North Stormont Council; water bylaw, land sale also discussed
North Stormont councillors heard a delegation on June 23 proposing the conversion of a former school into the municipality's first apartment building, but took no final vote as the minutes from that meeting have not yet been published.
The agenda for the regular council meeting included a request from the Finch Heights Apartments project, which is seeking a capital charge reduction and council's support for the adaptive reuse of the vacant school property. If approved, it would bring multi-unit housing to Finch for the first time.
Surplus land sale
Council also considered the sale of surplus land on roll 0411 016 00034000.0000 to D. Bender for $1,000 plus transfer costs. No vote was recorded in the agenda summary.
Water and sewage by-laws
A new Water Usage and Conservation Bylaw (By-Law 31-2026) was on the table, which would repeal and replace the existing By-Law 64-2021. Separately, council directed staff to bring forward a fee increase for the Avonmore Communal Sewage Services under By-Law 40-2026. The exact amount of the increase was not specified in the agenda.
Animal control
A draft Animal Control Bylaw was discussed, with staff directed to finalize it for consideration at the July regular meeting.
