County committees met on heritage, housing, and appeals; outcomes not yet public
Four Prince Edward County committees met between July 8 and July 13, but minutes have not yet been published for any of them, so no decisions are confirmed in the public record this week. Agendas show what was scheduled for discussion; the county has not yet reported what was actually voted on or approved.
Heritage permits and master plan on the table
The Built & Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee met July 8 in its final scheduled meeting of the current term. The agenda listed four heritage permit applications:
- HP-06-26 for the Drake Devonshire at 20 and 24 Wharf Street, Wellington — no recommendation listed on the agenda.
- HP-11-26 for the Crystal Palace at 375 Picton Main Street — recommended for approval.
- HP-12-26 for 124 Picton Main Street.
- HP-13-26 for 289 Wellington Main Street.
The committee was also scheduled to discuss the final Cultural Heritage Master Plan report and hear deputations from Gord Gibbins and Liz Driver on the committee's Terms of Reference. Because minutes are not published, the outcome of each item is not yet known.
Affordable Housing Board weighs Niles Street proposal
The Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation Board met July 13. Its agenda included a proposed direction to staff to draft a design/build request for proposals for up to 50 residential and commercial units on Niles Street, along with a proposed Niles Site Working Group. The board was also scheduled to receive the July 2026 Action Tracker and hear a verbal update from the Fundraising Working Group. No votes are confirmed.
Appeals Committee and Nominating Committee
The Appeals Committee met July 13 to hear Appeal Application No. 02-2026, concerning a muzzle and leash order for a dog, and to consider moving into closed session for personal matters and solicitor-client privilege. The Nominating Committee met July 9, adopting minutes from March 17, 2026, before moving into closed session under Section 239(2)(b) of the Municipal Act to discuss board and committee appointments and Civic Recognition Awards. Outcomes of both closed sessions are not public.

Regular Council — Tuesday, July 21. Council will reconsider the Picton Main Street parking bylaw (Motion 2026-117), consider an amendment to the Procedural By-Law on reconsideration votes, renew naming rights for the Wellington and District Community Centre Arena, and review a traffic calming study for Bridge Street, Picton. Heritage permit applications for 20 and 24 Wharf Street and 375 Picton Main Street are also on the agenda.
Committee of the Whole — Thursday, July 23. Items include endorsing the Prince Edward County Climate Action Plan, adopting a new Procurement By-law, creating a Reserve for Physician Recruitment and Retention, and approving the transfer of a portion of 230 Niles Street, Wellington, to the Affordable Housing Corporation for $2.00. The committee will also receive a fiscal update and deputations on the Municipal Accommodation Tax and the Agricultural Worker Equity & Diversity Initiative.
