Council authorizes purchase of 39 Pine Street

At its June 23 special meeting, council authorized the acquisition of 39 Pine Street—the former Central Public School—for use as municipal office space and to preserve the building’s heritage. In closed session, council received a presentation on negotiations with AECL and gave confidential direction to staff. Members also heard a staff compensation review presentation for information. The meeting ended with approval of confirmatory by-law 39-2026.

Workshop on governance roles

A second special council meeting on June 25 took the form of a workshop with no binding votes. Members held a facilitated discussion on the roles of the Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Chairs, concentrating on governance boundaries and guiding principles for the future. The only formal action was passage of confirmatory by-law 40-2026.
