Tofino council to consider $61M water project, $1.58M road contract
Tofino council is set to consider several significant items over the next two weeks, including a $1.58 million road construction contract, a $61.28 million water supply expansion, and changes to housing rules. All items are on meeting agendas; no decisions have been made yet.
Construction contracts
At its August 11 regular council meeting, council will consider awarding two construction contracts:
- Campbell Street Phase 3 to Knappett Industries Ltd for $1,575,725.75 plus GST
- Olsen Road Storm Main to Gibson Bros Contracting Ltd for $557,301.84 plus GST
Housing and land use
Also on August 11, council will hold a public hearing on an Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment for 740 Campbell Street. The change would alter the land use designation from Peninsula to Future Homes, allowing a proposed 21-unit multi-family building in partnership with the Tofino Housing Corporation. No decision will be made at the hearing; council will consider input at a later meeting. Written submissions were due by August 10.
The same council meeting includes second readings of the OCP amendment and a related zoning bylaw for 740 Campbell Street, as well as a rescinding and re-reading of Housing Agreement Bylaw No. 1356 for 691 Campbell Street.
Water supply
At the August 18 Committee of the Whole meeting, council will review a Source Water Assessment that recommends the Ahkmahksis Reservoir Expansion as the preferred near- to medium-term water supply option. The estimated cost is $61.28 million, with a range of $36.8 million to $85.8 million. Council will also consider authorizing exploration of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) or progressive design-build procurement for water infrastructure.
Parks and other items
Both the August 11 council meeting and the August 18 committee meeting will consider endorsing the 2026 Tofino Recreation and Parks Master Plan. The committee will also receive verbal reports on the 2026 Q2 financial report and the 2026 Q2 action tracking report.
