Recreation Board approves community grants, denies sno-seekers funding; Agricultural Board backs coyote control policy
Yellowhead County’s Recreation Board voted last week on several community funding requests, approving money for two community associations while denying an annual budget line for the Edson Sno-Seekers. Meanwhile, the Agricultural Services Board signed off on grants for local youth and agricultural groups and recommended approval of updated pest-control policies.
Recreation Board clarifies grant rules, funds community groups
At its June 22 meeting, the Recreation Board moved to clarify Policy 7100.02 — which governs grant eligibility for organizations located outside county boundaries — by establishing clearer principles based on facility location and function. The board also approved:
- **Donahoo Community Association:** $4,335 for initiatives and $2,977.50 for capital projects.
- **Pine Grove Community Association:** $1,300 for an event and $3,732.64 for washroom renovations.
- **Wild Mountain Music Society:** $2,200.
- **Surprise Lake Society:** $2,050.
The board denied the Edson Sno-Seekers’ request for annual line-item budget funding. Meeting minutes have not yet been published, so official vote tallies are not available.
Agricultural Services Board approves grants, policies
The Agricultural Services Board held its meeting on June 25 and approved two grants:
- **Yellowhead 4-H District Council:** $4,189.
- **Yellowhead Agricultural Society:** $2,000.
The board also recommended that County Council approve two policy updates: Policy 6300.03 for Coyote Control and Policy 6300.05 for Weed Control. Additionally, the board submitted a grading response for the Provincial Resolution Report Card. Minutes are pending publication.

On Wednesday, July 8, the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Board will meet to vote on a proposal from Moving Edson and Area for non-emergent medical transportation. Three service levels are on the table: Edson Catchment, Expanded Regional, and Full Service Area. The board’s recommendation is to include the Full Service Area option in 2027 budget deliberations. The meeting will also include adoption of previous minutes, reports from program coordinators, and an information update on FCSS Association of Alberta bylaw changes. The meeting is open to the public.
